Common snapping turtles can be spotted from the waterways of Florida all the way to southeastern Canada. This species is known for its combative demeanor when out of the water and its beak-like jaws. Despite their rumored reputation for “snapping,” scientists have learned that the bite force of the common snapping turtles is less than that of an average human.
