Valdosta, GA – There’s a welcoming feel in the air as Wild Adventures Theme Park puts the finishing touches on rides, restaurants and animal exhibits as it prepares for the opening of the 2017 Season on Saturday, March 11.
“Opening weekend is always exciting when we welcome our guests back home to their park,” General Manager Molly Deese said. “It feels like family has been away and are coming home. We can hardly wait for everyone to rediscover their familiar favorites while exploring all that is new and different this year.”
Guests will see upgrades and enhancements all over the park from the main entrance all the way to Splash Island Water Park.
The park’s major new addition to Splash Island - Ohana Bay- will open on April 1. Ohana, which is Hawaiian for family, will feature seven new slides, five designed for the smaller guests and two more that reach 26 feet high and have 200 feet of twists and turns. The news slides, along with abundant shaded seating and a family restroom will provide a whole new area for refreshing family fun.
New Look, Same Great Food
Returning guests will find food locations have been renovated and spruced up with a whole new feel while offering the same great food. Lonestar BBQ has a warm new look and the addition of old-fashioned rocking chairs and an outside, screened dining area will encourage family and friends to gather around. Other changes include the Mayfield Ice Cream Shop (formerly Marketplace) for all your favorite ice cream cravings and Cup Central (formerly Frozen Lemonade) for souvenir cup needs, as well as tasty snacks.
Two new babies joined the Wild Adventures animal family this year. Two tiny marmosets, sometimes called finger monkeys, will become ambassador animals and along with Rita the toucan, will welcome guests at the main entrance and help with educational programs. From the elephant/giraffe overlook guests can visit with old friend Kirby the wallaby and his new partner, Khloe. Fennec foxes Fernando and Pixie, will greet guests on the Alapaha Trail.
“Junk Rock” is an innovative new band that makes cool music on goofy items in a show that will get the whole family moving and grooving. A teaching magic show, “YOU Can Abracadabra”, invites kids to the stage to learn some basic tricks and circus fun returns with “Little Kids Big Top.” Guests favorites that often seem like old friends, “Tigers of India” and “Gators!” will both return to showcase fascinating relationships between man and animal.
Guests will also find a vast array of music by some of today’s top performers both contemporary and classic on select Saturday evenings. General Admission to the 15 All-Star Concert Series is FREE with a 2017 Season Pass or park admission. Reserved concert seats in the 2,300 seat amphitheater are also available for purchase. Local artists will have the opportunity to share their talent with park guests when they are invited to perform on the Lonestar Stage prior to concerts.
