Madagascar Hissing Cockroach

The Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is one of the largest cockroach species in the world. They create a hissing noise by expelling air through their slits that are located in their abdomens when they are alarmed or disturbed. This noise is a very loud one and they would also use this hissing noise for communication, courtship, and the colony hierarchy.

A Madagascar Hissing Cockroach differs from other species of cockroaches because they possess horns and are wingless. They are brown in color, wingless, and have long antennae. They are also the only known insect species capable of hissing.
